While we have to depend on oil and gas for the short run, we must continue to develop better alternatives. Another clean and reliable source of energy that's available today is nuclear energy.

We haven't licensed a new nuclear power plant in 30 years. Meanwhile, Japan has built 36 new nuclear power plants with 11 more under development - and France - which gets 80% of its electricity from nuclear power, built 56 plants. We've got a lot of catching up to do. Think about it. If the United States produced as much nuclear power as France, there'd be 2.2 billion fewer tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere each year.
