Oil Shale

Of all the energy sources in America, the greatest of all may be oil shale. Oil shale is essentially a rock. If you took it out and put in your hand, it would probably look like most other rocks. It would be a little bit lighter because it's fairly porous. And, in that porosity is where the oil rests. It doesn't flow freely. It's got to be really nurtured out of there principally using heat. We have well over two-thirds of the world's known supplies of oil shale.
